The Nasdaq Composite is a market-capitalization-weighted index of the common stocks and similar securities listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market. With more than 2,500 constituents, including companies based outside the United States, it is one of the broadest measures of U.S.-listed equities.
The index was launched on February 5, 1971, with a base value of 100. It is weighted heavily toward technology companies. Its level reflects price changes only: dividends are not reinvested.
