    Mar 14, 2018Hour Loop - News

Meet Clay Reece. Clay hails from Ohio and spends his days working at an electronic manufacturing plant, as well as spending time with his family. What most people don’t know about Reece, is that he has the mother of all home theaters in his house – what he calls his “ManCLAYve”.       The ManClayve is inspired by Clay’s favorite films – Pirates of the Carribbean and The Nightmare Before Christmas.     More like a museum than a home theatre, the ManClayve started coming together around five years ago when Clay purchased his first piece.     “I started my collection about five years ago. My first piece was a 12 inch Jack Sparrow made by Hot Toys...known for their detail in their figurines.”     Since then, Clay has amassed an impressive collection of ornaments, figurines, DVDs, dolls, posters and artwork which he has used to create his spell-binding mancave.     Hot Toys Limited is world famous for its highly detailed collectibles, particularly the ones in their Movie Masterpiece series. While Clay loves the pieces from Hot Toys, he has some other favourite pieces in his collection.       “I have several unique favorites. Some were made in limited quantities and were hard to find/and or expensive. But...my favorite is my life size statue of Jack Sparrow."     </

  • Planning a Disney Camping Trip
    Jan 29, 2018Hour Loop - News

Since we love to add a bit of Disney to our life whenever we can, we decided to come up with this handy guide to bringing Disney to your camping adventures. Even though it’s cold at the moment, with spring on the way, now is the time to start planning those spring and summer trips, to make sure you are ready when the warmer weather arrives! That way, once the longer days and warm temperatures hit, you will be prepared and ready to skip off on an adventure, soaking up as much fun as possible. One of the best ways to do this, is with a camping trip – so why not go camping, #DisneyStyle? Camping can take place in the wood, on the beach – even in your backyard, and can be as simple, or as fancy as you like. While some like to fish and cook damper over hot coals, others like to bring all the comforts of home which might include a barbecue, gas stove, or full kitchen inside a caravan or motorhome. Whether you like to pitch a tent in the mountains, or are more of ‘glamping’ on a campsite person, one thing is certain – you will make amazing memories and have an unforgettable time – especially if you incorporate a little Disney! So, whether you choose to camp at Disney World’s very own camping ground, grab some Disney themed gear and hit a regular campground, or camp in your backyard while having a Disney-filled week, these tips will tell you everything you need to know about having a Disney camping adventure that you will never forget.   Camp at Disneyworld   While Disneyworld might not be the place you would normally think of to go camping, Disney has created an amazing campground in Orlando called Fort Wilderness. Opened in 1971, shortly after Walt Disney World opened its gates, Fort Wilderness allows campers to enjoy the great outdoors while also experiencing the magic of a Disney Park!     Surrounded by trees, hiking trails and a large lake, the camping ground contains 800 campsites for RV’s and tents, as well as more than 400 rustic log cabins. Each campsite contains all the comforts of home – water and electricity as well as sewer and cable hook-ups on the RV sites. The campsite’s comfort stations include showers, restrooms, telephones, laundry facilities and ice, while cabins have a full bathroom, air conditioning and housekeeping services.    While most visitors to the Fort Wilderness Camping Ground are visiting Disney, the camping ground also makes a great place to have a holiday in its own right. The grounds are loaded with activities including hiking and jogging trails, swimming pools, tennis courts, fishing, cycling and horseback riding. Disney also offers a petting zoo and restaurants with an outdoors-barbecue theme. Those who stay on the grounds will also enjoy nightly campfire sing along with Disney characters, followed by an outdoor screening of a Disney film. Like all of Disney’s endeavours, Fort Wilderness is known for its outstanding attentio

  • Disney Cruising, Bounding and Tattoos: Melissa’s Disneyfied Life
    Dec 8, 2017Hour Loop - News

. Melissa Weber, 42, of Kansas, came to Disney early on in life, through the energetic spirit of her quirky mother.   “Disney has been there all my life. My mom used to tell her grandkids that Minnie Mouse is her sister. She would wear Mickey/Minnie ears to work often! “   This imaginative, fun character brought Disney to life for Melissa, and she became eager to know more about Disney, and the wonderful characters and films within the Disney world. This led her to find The Little Mermaid.     Most Disney fans are enchanted by certain characters, and Melissa is no exception. For Melissa, not only does Ariel share her hair color, but Ariel’s spiritedness and passion for life on land is infectious, and utterly relatable.   “I have always loved Ariel. Her curiosity, her determination to explore the world, and to find herself, has always struck a chord with me. And we both have red hair!”   This fascination with Ariel and The Little Mermaid led Melissa to try several new things, including Disney-Bounding, Disney cruising and getting a Disney tattoo.     Disney Bounding     Melissa, who is the owner of KC Draft, has a modest Disney collection, made up of a few special items.   “I have a few snow globes I collected around 1995. My husband got me the Lego Magic Kingdom castle for Christmas last year - I cried when I opened it!”   However, her true passion, lies in Disney Bounding. Disney Bounding is an understated form of cosplaying for Disney fans, and refers to Disney fans dressing up as their favorite characters by using everyday clothing items. The fashion trend was started by blogger Leslie Kay who came up with the term as she was preparing for a trip to Walt Disney World.     Disney-Bounding is easy to do, works for any age / shape / size, and doesn’t require a lot of money, since you use regular pieces of clothing. The idea is to emulate a Disney character while wearing normal, everyday clothing by using colour blocking and accessories. This style of dressing is something that Melissa has come to enjoy, as a way of incorporating Disney magic into her everyday life.   “This year, I have collected lots of styles of Mickey Ears to wear. I recently discovered Disney Bounding - I went straight out and got green jeans and a purple tank top, to represent Ariel, and I got Ariel themed ears to top it off!”</h4

  • Disney Ink: Meet the Disney fans who have immortalized their passion with tattoos
    Nov 19, 2017Hour Loop - News

Last month we took a look at Why Disney is So Popular Among Adult - what makes adult Disney fans tick, as well as why Disney has become more popular among adults, than it has among children. We found that adult Disney fans like different aspects of Disney than children, and one of these is Disney tattoos. Disney fans all over the world have chosen to express their love for the Disney-verse by getting a tattoo. For Disney fans, these tattoos provide an opportunity for them to share their love for Disney with the world, and to see something of Disney on themselves every day. A piece of Disney art on the body can also serve as a reminder of how much Disney has impacted their lives. With more and more Disney fans choosing tattoo as a way to express their love for their favorite characters or movie, we decided it was time to chat to some of the amazing Disnerds who have immortalised their love for Disney with ink.     Jacquelyn      Jacquelyn Cunningham, 23 of Guam, has been a fan of Disney for as long as she can remember and has two amazing Disney tattoos. Jacquelyn got her first tattoo in July 2016, when she went in to get a Beauty and the Beast rose with a Mickey outline on her ankle. The following year, she chose a Pocahontas compass on her forearm.   “I chose my Disney tattoos because they are two of my favorite movies. They are reminders that no matter how old you may be you can always dream and listen to your heart. Life happens but you only get one childhood. Disney is my childhood.”       Nikita     Nikita Vienneau, 19 of Ontario, has also been in love with Disney since she was a baby.   “I grew up on the films and have been to Disney World frequently. I’m going again next year for but my bachelorette party!”   Nikita’s tattoo is an amazing piece of The Lion King artwork, depicting Simba as an adult lion, being gazed upon, by himself as a child.     “I got it while in the Philippines with my Fiancé. And i have had it for a little less than a month. I chose Disney because Disney is my life - our wedding is even Disney themed! I chose it because The Lion King is my favourite Disney movie, and the meaning it has for me is to make light of the small things in life and never turn your back on anything.”   While Nikita has no imminent plans for another tattoo, she has an idea that she might want one in the future.   “I might get a new Disney tattoo on my leg. It would be a Mickey head style dream catcher with charms hanging off - perhaps a castle in the middle!”          Sarah <img alt="" src="//cdn

  • A Brief History of Halloween
    Oct 29, 2017Hour Loop - News

Disney does Halloween so well. No other company has generated as strong a Halloween footprint as the Disney company. But what is it about Halloween that Disney loves so much? With the popularity of Halloween increasing every year, and the industry now raking in over $6 billion annually, we decided it was time to explore how this holiday came to be one of the busiest of the year, for Disney, and for America.   T.V. shows and movies love to grow the hype around Halloween, and have contributed to the success of America’s second largest commercial holiday. Watching horror movies, trick-or-treating, decorating your house and visiting haunted attractions are all popular ways to celebrate the holiday, but how did these traditions start? We take a look through history to learn how it all began…   How Did Halloween Start? . Halloween originates from the ancient Celtic ‘Festival of Samhain’. The festival, which was established 2,000 years ago, took place in Ireland, and northern France. The celebration was held on the eve before November 1st to welcome in the new year, and the new season. November 1st marked the end of summer and the harvests, and was the start of the colder, winter season which was often associated with death. For this reason, the Celts saw the 31st October as a night that sat on the boundary between the world of the living, and that of the dead – a grey area between the two existences. For the ancient Celts, this grey area came to be thought of as a supernatural time in which the dead could return. The belief that ghosts or spirits could return to the living world on the night of October 31st, came to be a source of anxiety for the Celts, since they worried about their people, and for their crops. Celts also came to believe that the presence of such spirits could enable the Druids (Celtic Priests) to make more accurate predictions regarding the future.  In order to draw on this power, the Druids built large, sacred bonfires and invited the people to gather, burning their crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. The Celts often dressed in costumes for the bonfire, wearing animal heads and skins. When the celebrations were over, the Celts would light a stick from the bonfire, and return home to light their fires at home from the bonfire flame – a ritual which they believed would protect their household over the dark, cold months.     What Happened Next? .. By 43 A.D., most of the Celtic territory which celebrated the Samhain was conquered by the Roman Empire, and new festivals of Roman origin were merged with the Celtic celebrations. The first was Feralia, which commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day which paid respect to the Roman goddess of fruit and trees – Pomona. Pomona was traditionally symbolised as an apple, and thus evolved the tradition of bobbing for apples that is now practiced. Several hundred years later, the Roman/Celtic celebrations were set to change again. 609 A.D. saw the dedication of the Pantheon in Rome by Pope Boniface IV, and the Catholic fe

  • Growing Up On 90s Disney
    Oct 16, 2017Hour Loop - News

Thomas Atkinson-Towers (24) was born and raised in Bournemouth (UK), and has fond memories of his childhood, which was saturated in 90s Disney.   “As with many other 90’s kids, my first Disney memory is sitting down to watch The Lion King on a VHS that our parents rented from Blockbusters. The storyline just emotionally attaches to you no matter your age. Many times, I remember stealing my sister’s lion teddy to re-enact the Simba scene on Pride Rock, at the beginning of the film.”     For Thomas, Disney was a big part of his life, growing up in the 90s.    “We had the glory days of the Disney Channel! I have fond memories of Kim Possible, Emperors New School, Ducktales, Talespin - to name a few. I also grew up owning a Sega Mega Drive and playing the impossible Aladdin and Lion King games. Back then, dying in a game meant starting all over again, so I had many hours of enjoyment dying again and again. When I got older, I got a PlayStation 1 which was the finest period of Disney games in my personal opinion. I enjoyed Tarzan, Hercules, Mickey’s Wild Adventure and Toy Story 2. Those games were really hard for my age back then but that was part of the enjoyment. It was such a moment of achievement finally beating Mickey’s Wild Adventure a few years ago!”     As an adult, this love and nostaligia for Disney has led him to engage online with other Disney fans, sharing his interests and pictures of his amazing collection with other like-minded Disnerds. He has also picked up a job at a movie cinema, which has allowed him to watch all the Disney films multiple times.   “Whilst it’s not the best job in the world, it’s fun when the latest Disney film releases – and I get to keep the merchandise posters! And, of course - the free tickets to all the Disney films. I watched Moana 21 times including the singalong version.”       Thomas’ Collection Like many Disney fans, Thomas collects a bit of everything, and keeps his precious Disney items in every nook and cranny.   “My collection is a mix and match. From the outside, it probably looks a disaster - bunched up from odds and sods. I normally just impulse buy a new item every month or find more pieces at a boot sale. I collect mugs, snowglobes (just started), Limited Edition Dolls, and bits and pieces in characters that I like.”     Of course, Thomas also has his favorite pieces, but couldn’t pick just one.  It’s a draw between three items! "My Maquette Elsa which is one of 5000. The dress sparkles in a completely majestic fashion The Moana snowglobe from Disney Store. Whilst it may not look like one of the finest items in my collection, I adore the way the water will light up and have the globe blast out “We Know The Way” from Moana The third piece would be my Evil Queen Limited Edition Doll from Disney Store. I woke up at 7am just to purchase it online before it sold out alo
